There are experiences that stay with us long after they've ended. They shape the way we move through the world, the way we understand other people, and eventually the way we understand ourselves. After enough time, it's easy to forget that the wound came first, and the person we've become simply learned to live around it.
Forgiveness has a way of unsettling that life. It asks us to imagine who we might become if the wound no longer occupied so much of us. That doesn't happen all at once. We move toward it, lose our footing, and begin again. The decision to forgive may happen in a moment. Becoming someone who can truly live that decision is often the work of a lifetime.
Echo of Metanoia is a meditation on forgiveness and on the belief that a deeper, more intimate understanding of past trauma is what allows us to finally release it.
