New Work & Upcoming Events
Hello my friends!
I hope all is well and you’ve been enjoying the transition into fall! It feels like the warmer weather has lingered a little longer than usual here in the PNW, but the last few mornings I’ve started to feel that familiar crispness in the air. I’m looking forward to the shorter days, moody weather, and an abundance of tea!
I’m also excited to be part of several exhibitions over the next couple of months, and I hope you’ll be able to make it out to one…or more! ;)
The Shape of Enough
Very few of us decide for ourselves what makes us worthy of love. We most often inherit those ideas slowly. They end up taking shape through expectations and the subtle messaging we absorb from the world around us. By the time we begin questioning them, they often feel like they were ours all along.
Worth becomes conditional before we ever realize we've accepted the bargain.
We learn to believe that acceptance waits for us on the other side of achievement, approval, or becoming someone different from who we are today. The finish line keeps moving, and every version of ourselves feels valuable only until another expectation takes its place. After enough years, those expectations stop feeling external.
They simply become the way we see ourselves.
As I worked through this painting, I wondered whether genuine fulfillment can ever be found through achievement or approval, or whether the search for "enough" itself prevents us from recognizing our inherent worth.
South Bay Grange Holiday Market
Join me and @aimeeschreiber on November 14th from 10–4 to sip and shop fine art and artisanal gifts from local makers in this experience designed to strengthen community while raising funds to restore and improve our beloved historic Grange building. The new windows are up, and it's looking gorgeous!
Free parking, admission by donation ($1–$5 suggested).
Mirrors Art Show
I’m so excited for our upcoming Mirrors exhibition at The Copper Wolf on Friday, November 20, from 4–7 pm!
I’ve spent the last several months pushing the boundaries of my process and exploring ideas around agency, inner strength, confidence, and the forces that shape how we see ourselves.
The result is a body of new work from my Echoes collection that I cannot wait to share with you!
I’m also humbled and overjoyed to share this exhibition with four incredible human beings who happen to be amazing artists! Each will be bringing multiple pieces and taking over their own section of the gallery.
I’ve been lucky enough to get a sneak peek at what everyone has been working on, and I can tell you…you do not want to miss this show!!
Upcoming Drawing Classes
The first round of my Foundations of Observational Drawing course has been amazing! Three groups have been meeting on Sundays, Mondays, and Wednesdays to explore the fundamental techniques and concepts of observational drawing.
It’s been so much fun, and incredibly rewarding, to watch everyone challenge themselves, build their skills, and take their work to new levels!
Starting sometime towards the end of January, I will be offering both beginning portrait drawing and figure drawing classes in addition to the observational drawing class.
These classes will break down the structure and anatomy of the head, face, and figure as we will learn ways to simplify the features, useful measurement techniques, and tools that can aid in more consistently and accurately capturing the likeness of your subject.
Course Details
The portrait class will run for 10 weeks, and the figure drawing class will run for 12 weeks. The focus will not be highly academic in regard to anatomy, but more focused on observation, structure, and attaining likeness without having to memorize a bunch of medical terms.
Each class will run once a week, 3 hours per session, at $50 per session. If you’re interested in one of the open seats, please click the link below and fill out the form.
In the message section, let me know whether you prefer mornings (9am–noon) or evenings (4pm–7pm), as well as the day of the week. I will do everything I can to accommodate everyone interested!
Class sizes will be small (no more than 5 students per class), and spots will be reserved on a first-come, first-served basis.
Keeping the groups small allows for deeper conversations and a chance to really focus on each person’s growth. It also keeps the vibes relaxed and fun!!
I also plan to offer a basic oil painting class and a portrait painting course sometime early next year, so stay tuned!
Thanks for connecting with me, and I hope you all have a wonderful week!! 🙏🤘
